CYCLING DUTCH STYLE – Vlog Producer

We are a group of Australian cyclists who, led by Paul van Bellen, will ride 500km in The Netherlands in May 2011. This cycling infrastructure study tour is a unique opportunity for us to gain the needed knowledge that, we hope, will help influence policy making in Australia. The website www.cyclingdutchstyle.com.au is a unique space to share this knowledge not only in Australia, but around the world.

We have already started blogging about ourselves and the key issues we seek to explore during our tour, when we will keep uploading more relevant stories around innovative cycling solutions that we might suggest to Australian city developers. ROLLER DRIVER TO ANIMAL CARER (19 APR 06 – 7:30 ON SBS)

For 15 years, 42 year old Liz has been a road worker, driving big rollers in the outback. Seeking a life change, she wants to work with animals. For 2 weeks animal loving Liz is given the chance to try one of the toughest jobs in animal welfare – an RSPCA inspector. Under the guidance of her mentor, Inspector Myra, Liz comes face to face with distressed animals and their difficult owners. Does her expectation live up to the tough reality?

17 year old school girl Renae Simpson lives in Mt Magnet, a mining town hundreds of kilometres away from Perth. She wants to be a famous actress, and, as she puts it, “be on the cover of Woman’s Day”.   Over 2 weeks Renae is immersed in drama school with mentor Rick Brayford. She’s never acted before and has to learn fast. In a fortnight she’s up on stage performing live to a large audience. Has she got what it takes?

Twenty eight year old paraplegic policy officer Mallika Macleod is passionate about cooking. She wants to be a chef. She has just two weeks to prove that she has the culinary talents and physical capacity to make it in the pressurised environment of a high quality commercial kitchen.
Mentor Adrian Tobin gives Mallika her break, An award-winning chef who oversees one of the largest kitchens in Western Australia. Adrian, is a tough task master as he puts Mallika through a 2 week crash course in fine cusine.   Will she succeed?

SYNOPSIS

On a train returning to South West France an Australian woman filmmaker remembers Madame Clos, the oldest woman in a small bastide village and the many encounters and cups of tea she shares with her over four years. But France is changing. Will she still be there?

Madame Clos engages with the world around her through her huge window. There the filmmaker first finds her. There Madame Clos participates in the dramas of life around her. There she mourns the loss of her dear housekeeper, there she talks to her neighbours, to the Gendarmes as they pass, there she watches a wedding and the children in the school and debates philosophical values. As she approaches her 100th year, fragile but still vivacious she reveals the secret handed down from her mother.

An intense experience of time and place. of being in the moment and a meditation on ageing – this is a portrait of a vanishing way of life in France.

The Central Australia Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) is the largest Indigenous production house in Australia, located in the centre of Alice Springs, with an intimate knowledge of Aboriginal people. Paulo worked as Post Production Coordinator for CAAMA slate, Camera Operator for Pmarra Country Music, and story Producer for the Grounded Series.

A new ceremony has emerged in the remote Australian Aboriginal community of Yuendumu, and it is definitely more then a game… ABORIGINAL RULES Official website here

In 2008, Paulo conducted a 4 day movie making workshop in Bowral and the result are two short movies produced by the kids: Ya Mum and Drugs n Thugs . M.A.D. Youth is a youth-led philanthropic committee of the WCF, focused on providing grants to encourage and develop a strong and vibrant youth culture in the Southern Highlands, NSW.

OXFAM OIYP 2007 – Tutor / Director

Paulo Alberton and Alejandra Canales wrote and ran a workshop named “Producing Video For Social Change” for the Oxfam International Youth Partnerships (OIYP) 2007 event. The OIYP hosted 300 young leaders from around the world. Paulo directed the Promotional Video for Oxfam.
